Why did Jason Pires join Global BC?

Jason Pires, who has been an integral part of CTV Vancouver since 2001, recently declared his departure. After commencing his professional journey at CHEK-TV in his hometown of Victoria, British Columbia, Pires made the transition to the Vancouver Bureau in 2008, taking on various roles such as sports director, anchor, and reporter. He co-hosted the local rendition of CTV Morning Live alongside Keri Adams from 2017 until the shifts at Bell Media in June. Following his departure from CTV, Pires is now crossing the street to join the ranks of Global BC’s Global News Morning, where he has assumed the noon anchor position.

In a recent official statement from Corus Entertainment, Pires expressed his excitement about embarking on a fresh journey with Global BC. He enthusiastically shared, “I am thrilled to kickstart a new chapter at Global BC, especially with the opportunity to return to the morning slot and collaborate with the talented Sonia Sunger.” Pires looks forward to contributing to a revitalized era at Global News Morning, where the emphasis remains on providing deeply regional, informative, and reliable content, with a sprinkle of humor. He considers it an honor to be part of viewers’ daily routines and help them start their day right. Joining Sonia Sunger on Global News Morning are Katelin Owsianski, the traffic reporter, and Mark Madryga, Chief Meteorologist, both hailing from Global BC.”

Global BC’s News Director and Station Manager, Bhupinder Hundal, spoke highly of Jason Pires, saying, “Jason brings a wealth of journalistic experience, a deep commitment to our community, and a talent for storytelling.” Hundal also noted, “Our team and the Global BC audience will benefit greatly from his humble demeanor and genuine authenticity.”

For Pires, Global BC holds a special place in his heart, as it was originally BC TV during Expo 86 that first sparked his interest in pursuing a career in broadcast journalism. Today, Global BC is the most-watched news program in the province, broadcasting from its studios in Burnaby. Pires admitted that leaving behind his friends and colleagues at CTV was a challenge, but starting his journey at Global has given him a feeling reminiscent of the excitement of the first day of school.
