Name of Exam: United States Medical Licensing Examination

Conducting Authority: Federation of State Medical Boards

Eligibility for Exam:

The applicants in order to be eligible in the concerned entrance exam must be either of the following: a graduate in medicine from any United States /Canadian medical school program or Masters in Dentistry (MD) accredited by the LCME (Liaison Committee on Medical Education) or DO Degree accredited by the AOA (American Osteopathic Association) or any other degree equivalent to the degrees as stated here above.

Scheme of Examination:

The USMLE is held in the following two stages- Computer Based Written Test and Clinical Skills Examination respectively. The candidates are required to appear and qualify in all the examinations for being selected. The examination can be understood from three steps as given here below:

Step I- The basic aim is to find out the conceptual knowledge of the applicants related to practice of medicine and mechanisms for monitoring health problems respectively.

Step II- The second test is done to check the skills of the candidates on application of the clinical science in patient care and supervision including disease prevention and safe and competent practice of medicine.

Step III- The third and the last test is based on assessing the independent responsibility of the applicants for delivering the biomedical and clinical science knowledge to healthcare systems.
