The university was established in the year 1956 while it was conferred the status of a Deemed University in the year 1985 by the University Grants Commission. The university has been named after Karam Chand Thapar, one of the renowned personalities in Patiala. The Thapar University offers admission to a number of UG and PG courses in the field of Engineering & Technology to all the eligible candidates.
