Pondicherry University has been established under an Act of Parliament in the year 1985. The applicants can study in three different campuses of university located at Puducherry, Karaikal and Port Blair respectively. The university has a total of 15 schools, 37 departments and 10 centres offering about 175 Post Graduate and Research Programmes to the enrolled candidates. The university also has the Directorate of Distance Education responsible for conducting examinations for distance courses of university.
