Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis, also known as PSO2 NGS, is an MMORPG developed by Sega Sapporo Studio and published by Sega. It is a multiplayer real-time third-person open-world game and is part of the popular Phantasy Star series. Originally released in Japan on July 4, 2012, the game gradually expanded to other regions over time.

While an Asia version was released for Asian territories by Asiasoft on May 29, 2014, it unfortunately shut down on May 26, 2017. The game was also available in Hong Kong and Taiwan through Gamania, but it met a similar fate and was shut down in 2017. It took three years for Sega, in collaboration with Microsoft, to globally release the game on May 27, 2020, via the Microsoft Store.

Later that year, on August 5, the game also became available on Steam. Although a PlayStation Vita version was exclusively released in Japan, support for the platform ended in September 2020. A significant update arrived on June 9, 2021, introducing Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis.

This update brought a completely new world setting with open-world gameplay, separate from the original PSO2. As of the June 7, 2023 update, PSO2 was separated from the game and is now available as a free DLC. Accessing the original PSO2 is possible after clearing the Prologue in NGS. Players can access it from the Character Select menu or through the Ryuker Device by activating it from Central City. Cross-play is supported between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players on the Global server, as well as between PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch players on the Japanese server.
