The North Orissa University (NOU) has been established as on 13^th July 1998 u/s 32 of Orissa University Act 1998. The university has been mainly set up to provide higher education in the tribal areas of Northern Orissa covering following two districts: Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar respectively. The university has affiliations with 80 colleges imparting education in the following major disciplines: Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Botany, Business Administration, Chemistry, Computer Applications, Economics, Law, Library & Information Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Sanskrit, Anthropology, Wildlife, Zoology, Finance & Control, Social Work, Santali, Odia, English and Education respectively.

The applicants are invited every year for admissions in different courses of university through the common entrance exam organized by university in the months of June/ July. The last entrance exam was conducted on 19^th July 2014 & 20^th July 2014 by the university. Candidates can apply for the university courses either online or offline as per their conveniences. Admit Cards for participating in different entrance examinations are released by the university online at the website.
