The National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra is one of the Regional Engineering Colleges established under the Third Five Year Plan for promoting technical education in India. The college started in the year 1963 as a joint venture of Government of India and Government of Haryana respectively. The college received the status of a deemed to be university as on 26th February 2002. The candidates can avail admissions in the courses available in following main disciplines namely: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Business Administration, Computer Applications, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Humanities respectively. The main courses offered by the university include the following: B.Tech, M.Tech, MCA, MBA and PhD respectively.

The applicants in order to enroll in the university courses should participate and qualify in the common entrance exam conducted by the concerned authorities for this purpose. The admissions to the first year of B.Tech is done through the JEE Main (AIEEE) exam as conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education every year in May last. Whereas, admissions to the Master and Doctoral courses of university, applicants need to participate and qualify in the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) as conducted for this purpose.
