Initially, established as a Regional College of Engineering, the institute was officially brought into existence in the year 1986. The candidates who wish to enroll in the different courses of NIT Hamirpur must go through the JEE Main Exam as conducted by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) in May/ June months every year. The candidates scoring marks above the cut off as decided by the institute should apply to different courses available under different streams of engineering of institute departments. The candidates will be called in the counseling and final seat allotment of institute in July months as scheduled along with their all eligibility proof including JEE Main Score Card and Admit Cards respectively.
