Killers of the Flower Moon: Plot

The book Killers of the Flower Moon recounts a chilling conspiracy that unfolded between 1921 and 1925, involving the targeted murder of approximately sixty members of the Osage tribe. The Osage Indian Tribe, residing in Oklahoma, had gained the rights to the lucrative oil resources discovered in their land towards the end of the 19th century. Their newfound wealth elevated the Osage nation to unimaginable affluence, making them one of the wealthiest communities globally. However, this prosperity evoked envy among others who were not as fortunate, and it also raised concerns within the federal government, prompting them to appoint Caucasian guardians to oversee financial matters under the guise of assistance.

The situation took a dark turn in 1921 when the body of a wealthy Osage woman was discovered in the woods. This tragic event rapidly escalated the negative emotions that simmered beneath the surface, resulting in a series of violent acts. By 1925, at least sixty prosperous members of the Osage tribe had lost their lives. Special Agent Tom White, leading the investigation for the FBI, unraveled a complex scheme masterminded by local cattleman William Hale, who sought to seize control of the valuable Osage oil. To strengthen his claim, Hale went as far as convincing his nephew Ernest Burkhart to marry Mollie Kile, an Osage native.
