The JEM or Joint Entrance Examination is the common entrance exam organized under courses of different disciplines including Engineering/ Pharmacy/ Medical/ Dental/ Technology/ Architecture for admissions to the state colleges and universities of West Bengal. The exam is organized and conducted every year by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board in the April/ May months. The last Joint Entrance Examination was held in the year 2012. The applicants are required to apply in the December/ January months separately for different courses. The Type of applications varies for different courses in the manner as stated here below.

Type M- Medical/ Dental/ Pharmacy
Type C- Engineering & Technology/ B.Arch. / Dairy Technology/ Agriculture Engineering/ Pharmacy/ Medical/ Dental
The last JEM was held on 15th April 2012 for the different types of courses in three shifts. The applicants belonging to the Type M are required to appear for examination in following subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Biological Sciences respectively while those under Type E should appear in the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biological Sciences/ Mathematics respectively. The minimum eligibility required to participate in the concerned entrance exam is Intermediate/ 10+2 from Physics, chemistry, Mathematics & Biology subjects with at least 45% marks obtained in each of the subjects as specified and aggregate from any recognized Boards of Secondary Education in India.
