ICMR Exam Pattern 2014 Pattern of Questions and Marking Criteria

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) conducts the entrance exam for JRF (Junior Research Fellow) for all those candidates who wish to enroll themselves in the Doctorate/ Research Programmes. The exam is organized by the Indian Council of Medical Research New Delhi at the specified centres of examination in the months of June/ July respectively. The entrance exam for the current session is scheduled to be held on 13th July 2014 for all the eligible candidates.  Exam Pattern for ICMR:

The JRF Entrance Exam is a national level exam held in collaboration with PGIMER Chandigarh. The entrance exam is an objective type paper containing multiple choice questions on the following sections of examination.

Section I: Aptitude Section (Compulsory Section)

Common Statistics

General Knowledge in Sciences

Scientific Phenomenon in Everyday Life

Total Number of Questions: 50 Marks

Total Marks Allotted: 50 Questions

Section II: Subject Specific Section:

This section is composed of two parts namely Life Sciences and Social Sciences respectively. The candidates can choose questions from any subject as per their subject knowledge.

Total Number of Questions: 100

Number of Question to be attempted: 75

Syllabus of Study in Section 2 Paper:

Life Sciences:

Bio Chemistry, Bio Physics, Genetics, Micro Biology, Botany, Bio Informatics, Immunology, Bio Technology, Human Biology, Genetics, Zoology, Micro Biology, Veterinary Sciences, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology and Molecular Biology respectively

Social Sciences:

Anthropology, Statistics, Psychology, Social Work, Home Sciences and Sociology

Qualifying Criteria:

The candidates should score at least 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST/OBC/PH Candidates) in both the sections of the paper in order to get finally selected in the concerned entrance exam.

Eligibility for ICMR Exam:

The candidates in order to appear in the ICMR JRF Exam should be holding either of the following: Master of Arts or Master of Science degree in the Life Sciences/ Social Sciences subjects. The minimum percentage of marks required for this purpose is 55% (50% marks for SC/ST Candidates) respectively. The candidates who are appearing for the final exam of their qualifying degree can also apply for the concerned exam.

Qualifying Age:

The age of all the applicants should not be exceeding 28 years for the JRF Exam. A relaxation of five years will be given to the SC/ST candidates and 3 years for the OBC candidates respectively.
