Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology or popularly known as G. B. Pant University was named after the then Chief Minister of UP Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant. The University was made a University of National importance by the first Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on 17^th November 1960. The prime focus of this University is in the area of agricultural education, research and extension. G. B. Pant University gave way for setting up of 31 other agricultural universities in India.

The Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology Pantnagar is regarded as one of the first university to blend agriculture with technology. The university has been adjudged as the Best ICAR Institution in the country and State Agricultural University (1997). It university has also received the JRF Award from the President of India in the year 1997 and 2005 respectively.
