The Dr NTR University of Health Sciences Andhra Pradesh was brought into existence on 1st November 1986 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The university was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, NT Rama Rao for the first time; hence, it was renamed after his death on 2nd February 1998 on his name.
The university provides higher education in a number of disciplines including the following: Environmental Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Bioengineering, Dental, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Health Manpower Development, Health Administration etc. The university is affiliated to a 348 colleges in the following main disciplines of medical education: Modern Medicine (40), Dentistry (21), Ayurveda (07), Homeopathy (06), Nursing (213), Unani (02), Naturopathy and Yoga (02), Physiotherapy (38) and Medical Laboratory Technology (54) respectively.

Admission Criteria:
The applicants shall be selected on the basis of the academic qualifications and ranks obtained in the entrance exam i.e. EAMCET (Engineering, Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test). The degrees awarded by the university include the following: UG Degree Courses /PG Degree Courses /Diploma Courses /Super Speciality Courses. The degrees of the university are recognized by the following statutory bodies: MCI (Medical Council of India), DCI (Dental Council of India), CCIM (Central Council of Indian Medicine) and Central Council of Homeopathy respectively.
