CSAT Exam Pattern 2014 for cracking civil services exam

The Civil Services exam is now known as CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test). Initially called as the Civil Services Preliminary Exam, the exam is conducted every year by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) for selecting eligible candidates in the different cadre of services which includes the following: Indian Administrative Services, Indian Foreign Services and Indian Police Services respectively. The candidates appearing for the Civil Services Exam scheduled to be held in June month should check the details of paper pattern and marking scheme as per the new criteria for examination.

Paper Pattern for CSAT Exam 2014:

The Civil Services Aptitude Test consists of two compulsory papers of 200 Marks each having multiple choice based questions on the following topics:

Paper I: General Studies

Paper II: General Studies

Total Marks Allotted: 400

The questions in the Preliminary Paper will be set in both the languages –Hindi as well as English. The candidates need to qualify in the preliminary exam so that they can appear in the Mains Examination which will be held subsequently after the Prelims.

Paper Pattern for Mains Exam:

The Mains Exam shall be of 2300 Marks having a total of 9 papers to be qualified by the applicants in the concerned exam.

Paper I: One of Indian Languages as selected by candidates out of the 18 as prescribed for this purpose (300 Marks)

Paper II: English (Qualifying Paper) 300 Marks

Paper III: Essay (200 Marks)

Paper IV: General Studies (300 Marks)

Paper V: General Studies (300 Marks)

Paper VI, VII, VIII & IX: Optional Papers (any two chosen from the list of subjects as made available for this purpose) 300 Marks each

Total Marks Allotted: 2000

Interview: 300 Marks

The candidates who secure the minimum qualifying marks in the Main Written Exam shall be called for the Interview for the final selection in the concerned exam.
