The Avinashilingam University has originated from the “Sri Avinashilingam Home Science College for Women” established in the year 1975 under the patronage of Avinashilingam Education Trust founded by Dr TS Avinashilingam, a great patriot and educationist of India. The university since then has been contributing to the educational services though its colleges and departments. The Sri Avinashilingam Home Science College for Women was upgraded as a deemed to be university in June 1988 by the UGC and was given the name –“Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women”. The university provides higher education through courses available in the following major disciplines: Home Science, Science, Humanities, Education, Business Administration, Engineering & Community Education and Entrepreneurship Development respectively.

The applicants enrolled in the university courses are required to appear and qualify in the annual semester examinations held every year in the September/ October or March/ April months respectively. The university provides the facility of online downloading for results as well as university exam schedules at the website.
