The American Society of Microbiology has recently invited applicants for National Registry of Certified Microbiologists (NRCM) for its fresh academic session 2014-15. All interested candidates are advised to send their applications for admissions. The admission details have already been published on its official website asm.org . Levels of Certification:
Registered Microbiologist (RM-NRCM)
Specialist Microbiologist (SM-NRCM)
Criteria of Eligibility:
RM-NRCM: Applicants need to possess at least a baccalaureate degree with 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours of course work in microbiology & one year of full-time work experience (gained within the last three years) in a microbiology lab connected to the specialty area which is preferred OR at least a baccalaureate degree & three years of full-time work experience (gained within the last five years) in a microbiology lab related to the specialty area which is preferred.
SM-NRCM: Applicants need to possess a Master’s degree or doctorate with 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in microbiology & four years of full-time, post baccalaureate work experience within the past seven years in the appropriate exam specialty area OR a Bachelor’s degree (BS or BA) with 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours of course work in microbiology & seven years of full-time, post baccalaureate work experience within the past 10 years in the appropriate exam specialty area OR a Bachelor’s degree (BS or BA) AND ten years of full-time, post baccalaureate work experience within the past 15 years in the appropriate exam specialty area.

Application Procedure:
Interested candidates who meet the recommended criteria of eligibility are supposed to follow these simple set of instructions for a successful application:
1. Log on to asm.org , go through all the details provided and then create a Webassessor Account (webassessor.com).
2. After creating a profile successfully, applicants need to remit a non refundable application fee through online payment. The application fee for the Registered Microbiologist (RM) exams is $100, whereas for the Specialist Microbiologist (SM) exams it is $100 for ASM members and $150 for non-members. All application fees are paid in U.S. currency.
3. Submit all the necessary copies of your academic certificates to the following address:-

4. Ask your supervisor to complete the online reference form through the links available on its authorized web portal. The minimum work experience requirement must be documented through the use of online reference forms completed by your current or former immediate supervisor(s). Submit only as many reference forms as are necessary to document the minimum requirement.
