The existence of National Law School of Indian University came into being by a notification of act made through National Law School of Indian University Act of Karnataka Act 22 of 1986. It indicated the result of efforts by the Bar Council of India, the Indian Judiciary, the Karnataka Bar Council, the Government of Karnataka and Bangalore University to reorganize the legal education and establishing a center of excellence in the field of research and legal education in the country at the same time.

Requirement of Education:
The applicants who have completed their 10+2 scheme Class 12th qualification from any background securing not less than the minimum average marks of 50% in overall. However, minimum marks criteria may vary from course to course. The eligible candidates who have secured proper marks in their Graduation degree from a university of repute can apply for Post Graduate programme. The candidates are allowed to take admission in research programme only when they have qualified Master degree with very good score in aggregate from a recognized Institute or University.

Basis of Selection:
The candidates have to sit for CLAT examination, and the selected one will be called for Interview. The candidates have to secure marks in CLAT examination as per the minimum marks criteria.
Procedure for Registration:
The aspirants who think themselves eligible for the admission in the National Law School of Indian University are first of all have to register from the CLAT website i.e. clat.ac.in . After that they are supposed to apply for the National Law School of Indian University website i.e. nls.ac.in . The candidates will be required to produce all their passing certificates, mark sheets, Age proof, Caste proof (if applicable) along with the payment of requisite amount enclosed in an envelope and should have to be forwarded to the Address of University.
